This notice explains what we do with personal information when you use this website or enquire about our services. It is written to satisfy the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) in South Africa and the UK GDPR, because the company behind this site is registered in the United Kingdom and works with clients in both countries.
What we collect
When you fill in a form: your name, email address, and any phone number, company name and message you choose to give us. Nothing on our forms is required except a name, an email address and a message.
When you visit: the page you landed on, where you came from, and any campaign parameters in the link you followed. This is stored in a first-party cookie on your own device so that when you do enquire, we know which of our own efforts reached you. We also use Vercel Analytics, which measures page views without cookies and without building a profile of you.
We do not collect special personal information, we do not knowingly collect information about children, and we do not buy personal information from third parties.
Why we use it, and on what basis
To answer your enquiry, which is the performance of a contract or steps taken at your request. To send you a reply and, if you become a client, to run the work you have asked us to do. To understand which marketing channels produce enquiries, which is our legitimate interest in running a business, balanced against a measurement approach that does not profile individuals.
We do not send marketing email to people who have not asked for it.
Who else sees it
Enquiries are stored in Byter Lab, our own client system, hosted on Supabase. Emails are sent through Resend. This site is hosted by Vercel. Each of these processes information on our instructions only. Where information is transferred outside South Africa, it is protected by the contractual terms we hold with those providers.
We do not sell personal information, and we never will.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not become clients are kept for two years, so we can recognise you if you come back. Client records are kept for seven years after the work ends, which is what tax and accounting rules require. Ask us to delete something sooner and we will, unless we are legally required to keep it.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to us using it, or ask for a copy in a portable format. Email us and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforeg1@justice.gov.za) or, in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Cookies
We use a first-party cookie to remember how you first arrived, and a second to remember your cookie choice. Decline and we clear the analytics cookies rather than simply hiding the banner. There is no advertising cookie on this site.
